Reviewers of these events routinely enthuse on the artistic ease with which the band seamlessly presents a programme of material ranging from Wayne Shorter and Miles Davis to Jerry Roll Morton and Louis Armstrong.

Jazz Journal observed that this is “a very entertaining sextet who play well in a wide variety of styles” and The Musician summed it up with “Excellent! This is a band that should fill any festival spot in the land.”

The band frequently perform concerts for music societies and music festivals and are happy to discuss a particular theme or approach with organisers. corporate functions
The band is frequently booked for client evenings, product launches and corporate hospitality events. Sometimes the client brief is to add atmosphere by playing at a discreet volume allowing people to talk and network, and at other events a more dramatic presence is required.

The six or seven-piece band gives by far the best breadth of instrumental texture and sound but The Andy Dickens Band may be booked as a five-piece. For small some functions requiring only background ambience a quartet may be more suitable.

Occasionally clients request music in a specific style or from a particular period. Examples of this include a traditional New Orleans mobile line up, including trumpet, clarinet, banjo and sousaphone, or a lounge-style ensemble with trumpet and vocals, piano, bass and drums.

private functions
Much of the band’s private work involves playing at weddings and parties. In these contexts the band will play at a volume where people can dance and yet talk. The band will select its repertoire the popular end of the jazz spectrum, but we will gladly accommodate specific jazz requests where appropriate.

The six or seven-piece band gives by far the best breadth of instrumental texture and sound but occasionally the band will work as a five-piece. For small parties a quartet may be more suitable although this is not generally appropriate where dancing is a requirement.
